Fire Chief

Around our house, Tyler is known as "the fire chief." That boy loves anything that has to do with a firetruck, a firefighter, a fire hat, fire boots, a breathing mask, a ladder, a hose, a fire station...and the list could go on. His interest hasn't faded a bit since it first began, and, as I've said before, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he makes a career of this childhood passion. After all, you can see from the picture that he'd be cute as pie in a uniform!!

The funniest part of this firetruck/firefighter obsession is how he has made associations based on a few observations. For example, his favorite t.v. show is Fireman Sam. On the show, the fire chief has a mustache. After watching several episodes, we started noticing that Ty would put a straw in his mouth sideways and say, through clenched teeth, "Fire chief! Fire Chief!"

Believe me when I tell you that it took Danny and I entirely too long to figure out that our intelligent son was trying to use the straw to mimic the mustache of the fire chief on the show. Once we, his dumb parents, "got it" we couldn't stop laughing every time we saw a straw headed for his mouth!

Now, he's taken that observation one step further. I found a book at the Target Dollar Spot yesterday called Felix the Firetruck and it's about a fire truck's first day on the job. In it, there is one firefighter who is depicted with a mustache. On the FIRST reading of the book, Ty immediately pointed to that particular firefighter and declared that he was the fire chief.

I'm telling you, my boy is brilliant.

When we make it back to Georgia and he gets to meet his Uncle Darin, he'll immediately know what Uncle Darin's job at the fire station is based on his mustache!! Perhaps is a job requirement...

We are savoring every second of this two-year-old toddler phase. There are times when it is exhausting, but more often than not, my little fire chief is an absolute blast and Mommy's favorite buddy. I just love him to pieces.

Can you blame me??

**On a side note, I am conflicted about how to spell firetruck....one word or two?? I would look at Ty's new book, but it is upstairs in his bed with him. Not worth waking a sleeping baby over...**

Did I dream it or did y'all used to call Tyler "Chief" before he was even born???

I think firemen are wonderful role models for young boys, and you are right, Tyler looks great in the uniform!
