Showers--of Love and Water

It's been a heck of a "weekend" at the Watson household.

Beginning several weeks ago, as the pollen counts were on the rise, Tyler started having allergy-like symptoms of a runny nose and an occasional sneeze--both of which were aggravated by playing outside. He was also waking frequently in the night, which I attributed to the congestion. Clearly allergies. Or so I thought.

Indeed, allergies were probably the original culprit, but last Wednesday night, when Ty woke up with a fever, I knew we were officially on sick duty. Thankfully, his 15 month well-baby appointment was already scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

At his appointment, he checked off just fine on his growth and development. He weighs 25.7 pounds, is 32 inches long, and has a head circumference of 19 inches/48ish cm.

He also had clear lungs, a normal-looking throat, and no swollen glands.

But, he had two infected ears.

I know I couldn't have known, but I still felt terrible that his poor ears were infected and painful and I just had no idea. Mother-of-the-Year...yep, that's me.

So, since Thursday, we've been giving antibiotics and lots of love. Particularly, middle-of-the-night love. It seems our sweet boy is wide awake from about 2 a.m. until about 5 a.m., which means Mommy is up those hours, too.

Last night, I tried to go to bed at 11 p.m. By 1 a.m., I hadn't been to sleep at all and had been in Ty's room four times in response to his wailing and moaning. At 2 a.m., he was standing up and reaching his arms out, so I knew it was time for water, Tylenol, and whatever else he needed.

At 5:40 a.m., I finally went to sleep.

My precious, sweet, loving husband was up at 6-something a.m. getting ready for work. I went to tell him about our night, just so he would know to come home ASAP this evening. A little while later, he came in and whispered to me that he'd called in to work and that I should sleep as long as I could. I think I gave him the biggest hug he's gotten in our entire marriage.

Turns out, I enjoyed the most blissful day I've had in a long, long time. I slept until about 10 a.m., we had breakfast from McDonald's, we let Ty nap for a bit, we did a few chores, we ran a few errands, we had dinner, we played outside, and, generally, we enjoyed being a family. It was heavenly. I'm terribly sad that Danny has to actually go to work tomorrow. I know I'm going to miss him.

So, with all that said, I have lots to update you on, but I haven't had lots of time to do the updating.

Back up to Friday night...

My dear friends from church threw me the sweetest baby shower. They put so much thought and love into every detail. It was absolutely precious.

Cynthia's mom is from Mexico and can cook some authentic Mexican food like you wouldn't believe. She was generous enough to prepare the dinner for my shower. We had the most delicious enchiladas, rice, and beans you've ever put in your mouth. I stopped with the two enchiladas I initially put on my plate, but, I assure you, I could have embarrassed myself and eaten the entire tray. She puts every Mexican restaurant around to shame!!

Cynthia didn't miss out on the cooking gene either. She makes the most fabulous desserts, and she was kind enough to take the time to make homemade iced sugar cookies adorned with L's for Lydia, as well as an ice cream cake that was heavenly!

Here's a look at the evening:

When she asked about my favorite cake, I told her I liked everything but that my favorite was ice cream cake (chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip ice cream). I thought she might pick one up at the store or something. Nope. Every inch of this cake was homemade, including the icing. And, it was to die for...YUMMY!!

Inside of the cake

Heather (L) and Cynthia (R) were the hostesses. They did an AWESOME job!
And, I think Cynthia looks like a rock-star for someone who is due to give birth within the week!

I just thought this was a cute picture of Krista and Shelli. Krista is having a baby boy (her second child) in August, and Shelli will be having her first baby, a girl, about three weeks after I have Lydie. We're a fertile bunch at FBCUC!!
Fast-forward to our blissful family day today...
One of our objectives was to wear out little Ty-man. He just hasn't been sleeping, but he also hasn't really left the house in days. So, we took him to Toys R Us because I had some diaper coupons I wanted to use and we wanted to find some toys for Ty to play with outside. We hit the jackpot with a sale on the exact water table I've been wanting for him. It is awesome! I think he thinks so, too!

He also got a wheelbarrow to push around. Danny started calling him "Little Papa Joe" because he looked just like Papa Joe pushing a wheelbarrow through the yard. All he needed was some soil and flowers to haul!

He was SOAKED by the time he finished playing with his water table today.
Note to self: Put him in a swimsuit and sandals next time.

Splash!

The coolest part of this table is that it has a battery-operated pump that runs the water through the faucet for five minutes at a time. Tyler quickly learned how to turn it on and off and was thrilled to be able to play with the water coming through that faucet.

Wow! Danny did spoil you rotten with that one. I don't think my husband has ever missed one day of work for anything, so I know he wouldn't just so I could sleep!

Poor Tyler, but I know that meds will get him back to being well very soon. That water table is awesome!

Hope you are getting rest. First, I was feeling so sorry for you being up all hours of the night, but then I remembered pregnant women don't sleep anyway. At least you have an adorable distraction - that seems better than just tossing and turning.

You still look awesome. You are one pretty pregnant lady!

Tyler looks like he is having so much fun with his new toys. That water table is really cool!
Keep us posted on his progress with his ear infection. I hope he gets to feeling better.
Thanks to Danny for being such a wonderful dad and husband. What a thoughtful thing to do!

Is that not the coolest water table? Rody would LOVE that...this summer when it gets hot. Where did you get it?
