Fellowship in the Park

I have told you numerous times about how much I love my church. Danny and I just feel so blessed to have been led through those doors because we have found more than we ever dreamed in the way of friends who have quickly become like family and in the way of spiritual growth that we were both seeking.

Saturday morning, our Sunday School class met for a picnic at a neat park in New Braunfels. We'd been told about it by an Air Force friend, but we'd never been. Landa Park is the most amazing city park I have ever seen. It had an Olympic-sized pool, a natural, spring-fed pool, a wading area, paddle boats, canoes, many playgrounds, dozens and dozens of picnic tables and pavilions, a train, volleyball courts, putt-putt...it just goes on. It is so, so neat and such a fantastic place for large and small gatherings alike. I bet there were 1,000 or more people there on Saturday, but you never felt like anyone else was very close by. Incredible.

Our Sunday School class is officially in the neighborhood of 50-75 people on the roster, but we split into three separate groups for our Bible study time. Saturday, we just spent time with those families in our small group. It was wonderful to get to know everyone better and to actually have conversations with each person rather than just Sunday morning small-talk. It was nice, too, to be able to put parents with children since we rarely see one another in complete family units (all of our kids are in the nursery during church).

Our day at the park included playing on the playgrounds, eating hot dogs and the works, and riding the cool train that runs through the entire park. We had so much fun, and we were worn out by the time it was all over. The Watson house was in sleep mode for the remainder of the day!

Cynthia and Kallie climbing up to go down the twisty slide.

Kallie and her daddy, Anthony, after she successfully mastered the slide.

Krista and Josh and their daughter. Krista actually takes care of Tyler in the nursery, so we especially like her!

Tyler has become quite a little swinger!

Brian (he's our teacher) and his oldest daughter, Natalie.

You can tell by Micah's cheeks that it was hot outside.

Jason, Micah's daddy (and Heather's husband) was doing a great job holding down the food table! He's an Ortho resident at Brook Army Medical Center, so we are okay with feeding him well.

Tyler was excited about riding the train, but he was really into the commemorative patch that his daddy bought for him. I think it must have tasted good.

Jason and Micah getting ready for the train ride.

Miss Heather knows exactly what to do to get Tyler in hysterics. It is so funny!

Just had to have one with the conductor...

Holding on tight!

The Owens family pulled up the rear.

This is how much fun Tyler had. And, this nap continued for another three hours!

I think these are the best pictures yet. I feel like I was there with y'all.

What a true blessing that y'all found such a wonderful church family.

This post should be on San Antonio's Chamber of Commerce website!
