Losing and Gaining Privileges

Since he was born, Tyler has been an excellent, very happy bather. He depends on his nightly baths to cue his sleepy eyes and frequent yawns. He just knows it's bedtime when his little body hits that warm water.

From his first "real" bath and even now, he has really enjoyed his little blue bathtub, although he is growing out of it mighty quickly. I also enjoy his tub because it fits perfectly over the kitchen sink and has a handy drainage hole that helps with clean-up. And, it's nice for me to be able to stand up for his baths and be at the perfect angle for washing and shampooing.

In the last few weeks we have noticed Tyler paying more attention to his surroundings during his baths. He even grabbed the spicket on the faucet one night and turned it towards the very hot side. Thankfully, the water wasn't running. So, we've upped the security measures to maintain peaceful evening dips in the tub.

Another new bathtime behavior has involved splashing the water in the tub all over the kitchen counters and floor. This was cute at first but has recently become not so cute. Last night, after Tyler had not only urinated all over my hand and forearm but also managed to soak my shirt with his splashing, he was officially evicted from kitchen sink baths. He's movin' on up...to the big boy tub.

Tonight, the little blue tub, with Tyler in it, sat in the middle of the big boy tub, and the bathing went off without a hitch. Well, except that my back now feels broken and my knees must be bruised, but that's a small price for not having to clean the kitchen several times a day. And, wouldn't you know it, Tyler didn't splash the water even once. Go figure...

So, Tyler has lost his first privilege, but he has gained an even better one!

Why is it that I spend all day every day with a very pleasant Ty, but when his Daddy comes home he turns into the most excited little being you've ever seen? Am I chopped liver? :)

In all seriousness, I don't think Danny put Tyler down more than twice tonight. They are glued at the hip!

P.S. The mama barn swallow must have laid her eggs because she has been spending a lot of time in her nest. I tried numerous times to snap a picture of her perched in there today, but she was wise to me very quickly. I gave up when I realized it was just a lost cause no matter how sneaky I tried to be.

Also, it was 98 degrees in San Antonio today, a record-breaker, but with the humidity, the heat index was 107 degrees. Looks to me like indoor activities are going to be the norm around here this summer!

Those baths can be a back killer for sure. It will be much easier when he just sits on his own in the tub, and that shouldn't be too far away. There are many nights when I just hope all of the splashing mine does gets the dirty spots clean, because I don't want to kill my back scrubbing!

You are blessed to have such a hands on husband. I can't think of many men that would take over the caretaker role after a long day at work. He loves his boy!

Give congrats to the mama bird for me.

Cute pics. As usual.

Addie saw Ty's pics and said Baby....I said that's Tyler...and she repeated his name...I'll have to get her to say it again when I am on the phone with you...it was so cute!! Especially because the l sounded more like a w...

I'm with J...baths are so much easier when they sit up and splash on their own....

I just love the look of mischief on his beautiful little face. Like he knows he's gonna splash his mama.

He's adorable!
