They say everyone gets his or her 15 minutes of fame at some point in their life. Well, today, Tyler got two of his 15 minutes taken care of!
That's right! Thanks to his ridiculous, kid-hearted Mommy, Tyler Reed had two minutes on t.v.
Allow me to explain.
We spend our days and nights watching Sprout, a PBS channel for preschoolers. The Wiggles, a Watson favorite, are on that channel, as are Fireman Sam, Play with Me Sesame, Thomas the Train, Barney, and Roary the Racing Car. Every day the favorite show changes, but Fireman Sam has held the hot spot for many weeks now, thanks to the wailing firetruck and a mischievous kid named Norman Price.
Needless to say, as an almost 31 year old stay-at-home-mom of two under two, I am very familiar with the Sprout daily lineup. I am particularly fond of how Sprout has a live morning show called "The Sunny Side Up Show," complete with a talking chicken named Chica. It's a hoot and a holler--almost as good as Good Morning America!
Well, we've been looking forward to today's show for about a week now because Elmo was on "The Sunny Side Up Show" as a special guest. It was very exciting. This week, the show is focusing on colors, so, with Elmo as the guest, they asked Sproutlets (that's what they call their viewing audience) to either call in or email a message to tell Elmo their favorite color.
Being realistic, I figured that not only would the phone lines be jammed, but Tyler wouldn't say a word on the telephone no matter if Elmo or God himself was on the other end. Therefore, I opted for the email message.
I logged onto the Sprout website, and, on Ty's behalf, I wrote:
"Hi, Sean, Chica, and Elmo! My favorite color is black. It is always the first crayon I choose out of the crayon box. Love, Tyler from Alexandria, VA"
Honestly, I don't know if Tyler's favorite color is black, but it is the first color of crayon he always goes for, so I went with it.
Plus, if I heard one more kid, or one more Mama on behalf of their kid, say that their favorite color was "red like Elmo," I was going to puke. Seriously, must you teach your kids to suck up to celebrities so early in life?? Gosh.
Would you believe that within ten minutes Sean was on the air reading our message?!?! I think I scared the children half to death because I jumped up and down and screamed, "Ty! It's your message! They're reading your message on t.v.! Tyler, do you understand that you're on t.v.?!? Oh. My. Gosh. This is SO exciting, y'all!"
As you can imagine, Tyler gets his spirited personality honestly.
And, he spent a great deal of time looking at me dumb-founded because he had no idea that he'd sent a message to the show. Really, I tend to think that's beside the point.
I must have rewound that segment of that show 150 times. I never imagined our message would be on the air so quickly, or even at all. I didn't even have a chance to set the DVR. Therefore, there is zero proof that any of this happened at all, but I promise it did.
Two minutes. It probably wasn't even that. But, my baby was famous for a brief moment on the Sprout "Sunny Side Up Show."
Maybe it's just me because I'm the Mommy, but I am proud as punch of those couple of minutes!!
And, I clearly need therapy. Or a day away from toddlers. Either way.

Another reason to be thankful for these blogs! Now it is documented.
I don't think you need therapy or a day away...that WAS exciting. I don't care who you are...
