Weekend Update

On Thursday night, Danny came home complaining that he was sick. Seriously? He was just sick two weeks ago. He proceeded to spend the evening blowing his nose and coughing and claiming misery.

My charming wife response? "Are you really that sick?"

What can I say? He seemed melodramatic to me.

So, when I woke up with a stuffy head and runny nose on Friday morning, I knew I was getting my slap in the face. And, boy, have I been slapped. I am so stopped up that I can't sleep because if I lie down I, literally, feel like I am suffocating. My head feels like it's its own planet, and I am short-fused to say the least. Not a good way to start the Christmas week.

Worse yet, is knowing that Danny and I are Ty's primary caretakers and we are both sick. Eventually, it's going to catch up with baby Tyler, and I pray his first Christmas won't be spent sneezing and hacking and dripping snot (sorry, a little too graphic there). We will hope for the best.

Regardless of our illnesses, we still saw to it to have an action-packed weekend. Yesterday was Danny's 34th birthday, and Tyler and I wanted to make it as special as we could. We started with a homemade breakfast of eggs, grits, and bacon, followed by a couple of gifts. Then, after getting dressed and stopping by the UPS Store, we had a delicious lunch/dinner meal at Red Lobster. We did it right, too. We had an appetizer, salads, bread, entrees, and dessert. Tyler was particularly fond of the biscuits and the ice cream.

We spent the remainder of the evening in Toys R Us doing Santa shopping for Ty. Let me assure you, Toys R Us is not where you want to be this close to Christmas. Nonetheless, we had a speedy checkout because I know people who know people (thanks, Linda!), so we were thankful for that! Now, Santa is all ready for Tyler's first Christmas. Let the merriment begin!

Today, we went to church, and Tyler had a "Happy Birthday, Jesus!" party in the nursery. Very cute. Pastor David brought us an awesome message, one with a new look at the Christmas story that included some very personal self-evaluation. If you ever want to hear our sermons on-line (well worth your time, I might add), you can visit our church's website here. Today's message is already there for your listening and/or viewing pleasure.

It was so cold here in San Antonio today (high of 47 and windier than you might imagine), that we decided to fore go our usual after-church restaurant lunch and opted for the Taco Bell drive-thru instead. Tyler went down for a very surprising FOUR HOUR nap while I attempted to rest and Danny went shopping for my Christmas gifts (I'm actually surprised that he started this early this year). Then, we were off to a birthday party for Tyler's friend, Arden. We had a really good time visiting and playing.

And, that's a wrap. Very busy, but mostly boring to read about, I know.

Tomorrow is a very big day! As you'll remember, we go for the "big" ultrasound appointment where we pray we will find out that we have a healthy baby growing in my womb...and, maybe if it's a boy or girl! The overwhelming majority of those polled, including blog readers, family, friends, my Sunday School students, and Danny's co-workers, believe that this baby is a girl. I'll be anxious to spill the beans as soon as we know anything! The appointment is at 2:30 p.m. CST, so look for an announcement thereafter (immediate family and closest friends will receive phone calls/text messages ASAP).

I pray God's blessings on your families this Christmas season. Please know how much you all mean to us. Have a Merry Christmas week!

Our newest 34 year old and Tyler before church this morning. All the pictures that showed Tyler smiling, showed Danny looking kind of freaky, so this was the best compromise I could find. In his defense, our little boy is quite difficult to hold still these days!

This is my favorite ornament on my tree! Can you believe the detail? If you live in the San Antonio area, don't miss a trip to Precious Prints. It was worth every penny I spent in that place, and I intend to go back again. If you live elsewhere, see about finding a ceramics studio that can capture your child's handprint/footprint in time. You can't replace that memory.
Anyway, I just love to look at that chubby little hand!!

I love that ornament! Why did we not go there when I came to visit? Those are awesome!

I cannot wait to hear all about the ultrasound... I am so nervous for you already! I know that there is a beautiful, healthy baby girl in your womb!!!

Even if it is another amazingly cute little boy, I'll love and spoil him nonetheless.

Love you!
