Snapshots

We've had a really nice Sunday here at Casa de la Watson. We went to church for a special one-service only sermon, which meant we didn't have to get up quite so early and I didn't have to prepare a Sunday School lesson. Such a treat! Plus, to celebrate the more relaxed Sunday schedule, many folks wore blue jeans to church, including me (meaning more folks than usual--after all, we live in Texas). I have never done that before in my life, but it was really nice. Didn't feel sinful at all.

After church, we enjoyed some Mexican food with the Davis' and headed home for some rest. Everyone else took naps, but I became deeply involved in one of the books Danny gave me for Christmas: The Duggars: 20 and Counting.

Honestly, I laughed when I opened my gift and saw the Duggar family book in the box. I had asked for the Jon and Kate Plus Eight book, Multiple Blessings, and, while I have always had an interest in the Duggar family, I never expected Danny to pick up their book for me. I thought it was funny primarily because I have always thought the Duggars to be respectable yet completely nuts.

If you don't know them, you can catch their show on TLC. In short, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have 18 kids ranging in age from a couple of weeks to 21 years. They homeschool all of their children, maintain strict moral standards, and run a tight ship in their household (because, really, they have no other choice). Obviously, that kind of large family seems odd by today's standards, but, since reading their book (I'm almost finished), I am hugely impressed with their commitment to God and how that commitment trumps everything else in their lives. I am still not interested in a family that large, but many of their philosophies could be adopted by all of us, even those without children. I would recommend the book to anyone who has a vision for their home. You might find some sage advice between the pages of the Duggar book.

So, while everyone else napped, I was intrigued by a good book. I'd take that over a nap most days of the week. If only I'd had a Chai Latte in my hand, I would have felt like a spoiled brat.

After relaxing a bit, some chores were done, and I cooked a pot of Baked Potato Soup for dinner. Delicious!! I'd never made it before, but it will become a staple around here. Maybe I'll get around to posting the recipe one day for you to try.

Before bed, Tyler was wound up. He ate so much food today, and I just knew he was going to puke at any moment. Even still, he insisted on practicing his forward rolls; two weeks off from The Little Gym seems like an eternity to him, I suppose. Of course, once I grabbed the camera to catch him flipping over and over, he quit doing it. He is just so dang cute when he puts his head and hands on the ground and sticks his little bottom in the air. He'll actually complain if you don't assist him rather quickly. I tell you, the kid's a monkey!

But, alas, that monkey is in the bed, and I am close behind him. I just need some Tums and a prenatal vitamin, and I'll be good to go!

By the way, this time next week, my son will be a year old. I opened the last can of formula this morning, did a happy dance, and then got teary-eyed. I become more and more thankful for this new baby every day. As unexpected as she was, she is a blessing that only God knew I needed. Now, that doesn't mean I won't be pulling my hair out and seeing a therapist in a few months, but she'll still be the unexpected blessing that came right on time. God is awesome like that, isn't He?

Tyler is getting the hang of brushing his two new teeth!

So sorry we have been neglecting you, Danny. You look great.

Love the pics of sweet Tyler. I can hardly believe Tyler is about to be a year old. Seems like just yesterday you called me to tell me you were pregnant. So glad little Miss Watson is on her way.
