Let's Explore!

The kids and I are back in a good groove again, and we are really, really, really happy about it. We finally feel settled in enough that we can get out and about and explore our new surroundings. It also helps that I am trying to put Lydie on an afternoon only nap schedule, so that gives us our mornings back for running errands and playing outside. By 1 p.m., we're all ready for a little down time!

On Thursday (July 22nd), we decided to check out a brand new park that has just been built in town. It's actually on the site of an old water treatment facility that apparently stunk up the immediate surrounding neighborhoods for decades. Finally, the facility was relocated to another area, and the place they left behind is being leveled and turned into a neighborhood park. Phase one, the playground, is now complete, so they had a ribbon cutting for it last weekend, and I couldn't wait to check it out.

Honestly, I was pumped about this particular park because I could tell from the photos in the newspaper that it had that rubbery, bouncy kind of surface all around it which far outweighs the gritty sand that seems to be at every other park around here. I know, I know. We live in a beach town now. Sand is just part of it. I get it. But, I still don't like it. Especially on playgrounds.

Anyway, the kids had a lot of fun. Lydie mostly just enjoyed her snack because there wasn't anything there for a non-walker/climber to do, but she never complains about being a spectator.

I would give the park a 7 out of 10. Once they get benches in around the play equipment, that will add to my score because right now there really isn't a place to put your bag or sit down. And, I think they really need swings. What's a park without swings??

We are excited for all the new adventures ahead of us!
