When Tyler turned four months old, I was so excited to mix up that first little bit of rice cereal and feed him "real" food with a "real" spoon out of a "real" bowl. Within about two days I discovered that baby food is overrated and bottles are a thousand times easier.
This time around, I was wise to the pain that baby food is and I prolonged the inevitable as long as I could. Lydie was cooperative, though, because she had orders from her doctor to not have any solid foods until her constipation issues could be resolved. Unfortunately, those issues are slow to resolve, and, in an effort to make things get moving in her digestive system, I decided some straight prune puree baby food might be the ticket.
I was right. We've changed more nasty diapers this weekend than we have in the child's entire life.
The differences in my children are so funny to me. When a spoon approached Tyler's face for the first time, he all but swallowed my hand along with the food. He knew exactly what to do. Lydie, on the other hand, never opened her mouth the slightest bit. She didn't spit the food out once it was in her mouth, but I had to really work to get it in there. She's just not nearly as aggressive of an eater as her brother was. And, there are definitely pros and cons to both.
So, we are going to continue with a little bit of prune yumminess every day for a while and see how she does. We are still anxious to take her to the Pediatric GI doctor on October 30th to see what the trouble might be with her belly. We know that her thyroid is functioning normally because her bloodwork came back A-OK, praise God, so that is not the cause of the problem. Now, we just need to figure out what is.
On a side note, I mentioned a couple of weeks ago how jealousy shows up in the strangest places around here...well, when Lydie was getting her prunes last night, Tyler demanded that he be included. So, everybody had prunes. Delicious. He is such a mess!
And, as evidenced in the picture below, Lydie continues to work towards rolling over. I am convinced that she could do it but just doesn't want to. She hangs out on her side almost all of the time and absolutely hates being on her belly. This girl, this girl....she is something else!!

Oh, I am so glad the real prunes did the trick! I was getting worried about that little girl! It must be your formula, you think?
I can't get enough of all that hair! : )
Lydia's hair looks lighter in this picture. Is it getting lighter, or was it just the camera angle?
She will be turning over soon!
Love,
Mom
