Today I had a hair emergency, and it was not good.
Allow me to bring you to speed. In Louisiana, I found the World's Best Hairdresser...seriously. If Shreveport were within four hours of me, I'd still drive to have my hair done by her. In fact, I'd probably go five hours. One of the most challenging parts of moving to a new place is finding satisfactory hair care. And, so it is here in Texas.
Danny's boss's wife recommended the place I went to first. I don't know the name of the person she uses there, but the chick I got was not up to snuff. I've lived the past couple of months in horror of the job she did. One of my friends here recommended a guy in New Braunfels, but he is making appointments four weeks out. I don't know about you, but when it's time for a haircut, it's time for a haircut. Another friend recommended a salon and a stylist that she adored, and I was able to get an appointment there. I called on Tuesday and had my appointment set for today at 2 p.m.
Ms. Bobbi and Mr. Fred were all set to watch Tyler for me, and I was excited about the hour or so of "me time." I haven't been alone in ages, and, since I like myself pretty well, it was time to reconnect.
I headed out the door and north on I-35 at 1:30 p.m. I thought I had gone a little too far, so I stopped to call the salon to check my directions.
I said, "Hi, my name is Jennifer Watson, and I have an appointment with Bridget at 2 p.m. I think I might be a little turned around, and I just wanted to see if I am headed the right way."
The lady who answered the phone said, "Who is your appointment with?"
"Bridget."
"Um, Bridget doesn't work here anymore. It looks like Darlene tried to call you to reschedule, but she didn't get you."
"I have been at home, and I have not received a phone call or a message. I can't believe I made this appointment on Tuesday and the girl doesn't work there by Friday."
"Yeah, I'm sorry."
That's when I said, "Yeah, me too," and hung up the phone. I almost started crying. There I was, looking forward to hair correction and alone time, and all my plans were busted.
As I sulked on home, I got really mad and determined to have my hair fixed...TODAY. There is a new salon just down the road, so I stopped and inquired about their availability. The nice lady I spoke with, Lana, said she didn't have anything but that she could call me if something changed. I gave her my number, thanked her for her time, and continued on my sad journey home.
Ms. Bobbi and Mr. Fred were quite surprised to see me. I told them the story, and they couldn't believe it either. Not five minutes after I got home, Lana called me and told me that she'd had her 4:30 appointment cancel and asked if I'd like that slot. YES!!!
Hallelujah!!
So, I headed down the road for the second time today in hopes of a haircut. I was nervous about a new salon and new hairdresser that I was going to without any recommendation. I decided it was worth the gamble.
And, two hours later, it was.
She took a long time looking at my hair and deciding on the best cut for me. My only requirements were short, easy to fix, and flattering.
I think I got what I asked for. If nothing else, my husband described my new do as "sexy." I'll take that!

This isn't a great shot of the front because the lighting was weird, but you kind of can see the length. The layers look nice and it has lots of volume...big Texas hair!!

I especially like the back because it works with my natural curl without looking kinky and frizzy and gross. She put tons of texture and layers in it, and it just falls into place.
Now, let's hope I can make it look like this again tomorrow!!

I LOVE THIS HAIRCUT!!!! It is so flattering and really frames your face so well.
Great haircut, Jenn! I'm having hair panic attacks myself......in the middle of trying to grow it out a bit, but it's not working. I'm going back to chin-length next Friday, and I may put some flip back in it.
I think you look great, and I'm glad you got some much-needed time to yourself. Love ya!
You look beautiful! What a gorgeous hairstyle for you. It really does fit you well. Danny is right!
And love that picture of your big boy Tyler....
What a fun, summer cut. With your great hair texture, it looks like it will be pretty easy to fix too!
