As the sun began to shine more often and the temperatures slowly crept up, our neighbors started planting flowers and digging out the weeds and generally freshening things up after the long winter.
And I do mean "long winter."
I knew we wouldn't be doing much in the landscaping department since we'll only be here another couple of months, but I felt a little jealous of all the brightly colored petals surrounded by the (sometimes smelly) dark mulch in front of other people's homes.
So, within my husband's earshot, I made a declaration about two weekends ago: "I need some flowers in my life."
You see, I love to look at the flowers and smell the flowers and enjoy the flowers, but I don't do the work that comes with flowers. For one, I kill every flower I touch, and, two, I know Danny can do that stuff better than I can anyway--why bother?
Much to my delight, Danny and Ty took a guy's trip to Home Depot on Saturday morning and bought a flower for each member of our family. I've never been so excited.
Ty was overjoyed with helping his daddy plant the flowers and dig in the dirt...for about five minutes. Then, he wanted to walk around the courtyard area. I stepped in and helped Danny finish up, meaning I put the newly potted plants into the plant stand.
We are enjoying our little burst of color on our porch, and Ty gets up every morning ready to check on the flowers and feed them some water.
Oh, he's so sweet.
