This might have been my favorite Thanksgiving week ever! We are finally close enough to actually be with our families at Thanksgiving, which hasn't happened in the six years we've been married, so we filled up our house with seven adults and five children and had us a ball.
Elaine (Nana) arrived on Tuesday afternoon with Papa Joe and Mama Janet following shortly thereafter. On Wednesday, we took Ty to My Gym and then messed around for the rest of the day while we waited on Travis, Lou Anne, Lilli, Amelia, and Collin to arrive from North Carolina. The Hicks pulled in after Ty had already gone to bed, so he had a blast waking up to three cousins to play with. He couldn't get enough of those girls, and he and Collin kept that train table busy, busy, busy!
On Thursday, we enjoyed quite a feast, as well as naps (for a few of us), afternoon arts and crafts, a little bit of football, some Starbucks (oh, yes, you heard me right!), and some more food. Just having my house bustling with all those little people and some of the folks I love the most in the world made my heart feel full. It was just a blessed day.
On Friday, we braved the cold temperatures and strong winds and took the Metro into town to visit the National Aquarium. Something about "National Aquarium" made me think this might be a "can't miss" kind of place. Wrong. We probably could have seen the same thing just by going to the aquatic section of the local pet store. Nonetheless, the kids loved riding the train and watching the alligators be fed. Plus, it wore the boys out enough that they took great (albeit late) naps while Lou, Papa Joe, and I went for a tiny bit of Black Friday shopping.
Today, unfortunately, the first round of our crew had to leave. The Hicks bunch headed back to North Carolina, and things seemed a little less exciting around here. I sure miss those nieces and that nephew of mine, and I wish we were even closer and could see them a ton more often. But, I am abundantly thankful that they were able to spend Thanksgiving with us this year.
Tomorrow, Papa Joe and Mama Janet will leave to begin their journey back to Georgia, although they will stop in North Carolina for another day or so before actually heading home. On Monday morning, Danny will return to his classes and Nana will leave on an early flight back to Atlanta, which will signal the end of the Thanksgiving festivities.
Until next year.
When I am hoping Thanksgiving can happen on the beach...
Hope your Thanksgiving was as blessed as ours!
