Choo-Choo Cha-Ching

My son loves choo-choos. And cars and buses and airplanes and trucks and anything else with wheels or wings that makes noise and can potentially go fast. The fact that we live beside two train stations, regularly see public transportation buses, and can watch airplanes flying into and out of Reagan Airport makes my boy a happy little guy.

But, those choo-choos...they've really got his heart.

So, like a good Mommy, I had already planned an exciting Christmas filled with all things choo-choo. In an effort to prepare for said gifts and test whether the child would actually play with a million choo-choo trains and such, I bought a few inexpensive trains and tracks on our trip to IKEA last week.

I could hardly wait for Danny to get the track all set up in the living room, right where Ty would see it first thing in the morning. We even googled track layouts because we're nerdy like that.

As expected, Tyler Reed came barreling down the stairs and immediately began chanting "choo-choo, choo-choo" and didn't stop for a really long time. Well, he didn't stop until he had crawled all over our beautifully designed track until there was no path left and went into break-down mode.

We worked on reconstructing the tracks only for them to be destroyed again in minutes. Hit replay on this scene another hundred or so times and you've got all the makings for some horrible movie that closely resembles Groundhog Day.

My brain began recognizing the fact that that train table might need to arrive before Christmas morning.

An exhaustive internet search of train tables led us on a wild-goose chase. We had tracks and little trains, so we only needed a table. Some tables came with all the necessities; some tables came with nothing. All of the tables were pricey.

May I interject here that Mommy has a few items on her wish list right now? Let's see, we need a new bed in our room, a sleeper sofa in the t.v. room, a new desk, and a new car. Just so you know.

So, the train table debate led us to the Toys R Us train aisle on Saturday night. I have never wanted to run screaming from Thomas the Train so badly in all my life. That train has a monopoly on trains, I tell you. And, his little trains and tracks and such must be plated in gold for what they cost!

Nonetheless, here's the monstrosity that now sits in my t.v. room instead of a new sleeper sofa and desk...

Whatever. Christmas came really early at the Watson household this year. Although, Lydie and I are still waiting on Santa to leave our gifts.

The excellent news is that this train table has kept my sweet little boy happy all day long, and, really, that's the whole point. The bonus is that I get to hear his sweet voice chanting "Choo-choo, choo-choo, choo-choo" from sun-up until sun-down.

I guess the monstrosity wins.

That looks like so much fun. I so wish that Kai could be there to play with Tyler...soon enough!
