Friday Fun

Fridays have become one of the best days of the week lately. Our Sunday School class has started doing Friday morning playdates together, and it is such a blast to end the week with cute kiddos and exceptionally fun and loving friends.

Yesterday, it was our turn to host the playdate at our house. I got up early and prepared four kinds of muffins, spread out some scones, and made a hot pot of coffee. Once Ty was dressed and fed, it was time to play.

We have a great group of five kids and four moms who can always come on Fridays, and we have two other women who come sans kids (one is preggo with her first baby and the other has two school-aged children) to play with us. It is just a blast.

Nicole and Kaitlyn were caught up in Noggin

Tyler was not impressed with the camera and was a little concerned as to why so many other kids were playing with his toys.

Gretchen and Heather helped Nicole and Micah with snack time.

Later in the day, after a pretty good nap, I decided to try to walk with Tyler to the mailbox. Not entirely too smart. He thinks it's funny to try to walk into the road. The more I scolded him, the more he headed to the street. Finally, I just had to carry all 25 pounds of him to the mailbox and back. That's not easy to do on a good day, much less at 26 weeks pregnant.

Once we made it back to the house, I put him down again in the front yard. Despite many, many attempts to go to the road, he was having a blast in the afternoon sunshine. So, I decided to continue the fun in a safer environment--we headed to the backyard (the fenced-in backyard).

That little boy went nuts! I didn't have a single toy for him to play with, but he was just as content to wander around back there and pick up leaves. I spent much of the time telling him to brush off his hands and get off the ground and quit scuffing his new shoes...until I remembered that he's a boy and this is what boys do and that shoes are made to be worn. So are the pants that are now covered in dirt and near shreds. What can you do?

This "step" is pretty huge. He mastered getting from the yard to the patio without any trouble, but had I not watched him like a hawk, he'd have fallen, face-first, on the ground trying to step down. We're going to need a Plan B on that one...

He walked on the patio once I convinced him not to crawl...did I mention how dirty he was?

Not safe, but the electrical outlet door was fun to open and close.

He learned that if he went to the door, I'd open it. Then, he'd step inside, turn around, and go back out. Just like Daisy used to do!

Too bad the Texas grass isn't as lush and green as it is at home. Ty doesn't know any better, though, and he just crunched around with total abandon.

This is his "I'm concentrating" face. I think his brain was thinking, "Aren't these legs supposed to make me faster? How can I go faster?"

Tag, fence. You're it.

Next week, our Friday playdate will be moved to Thursday, but you better bet we're looking forward to it nonetheless. And, we might even make it outside again between now and then, seeing as how we're supposed to hit 90 degrees a couple of days next week...ahhhh, a south Texas winter.

I loved seeing this. He is having so much fun. I want to see him walking on his own.
It is really good for children to be able to play together. The play dates are a wonderful thing!

The weekly play dates sound awesome. Perfect for wearing the kids out, and giving the mom's some adult time!

Your gonna miss that Texas weather next year. Around here, we get excited when the high is 50 this time of year!
