Friday, August 10th was the girls' original last day of their visit. We spent the morning watching the refrigerator repair man try to figure out why our fridge was only lukewarm and smelly. Since that took up the morning hours, we didn't head out for our adventures until lunchtime.
We had decided earlier in the week to visit the San Antonio Zoo on Friday. It has been named one of the country's top ten zoos, so we thought it was a must-see. Very disappointing. If this zoo was in the top 10, I would hate to see the one at the bottom of the list. The place was completely overrated, and you would die of thirst and wet yourself before you ever found water or a bathroom. Ridiculous. Nonetheless, we sweated it out, always hoping for something a little better around the next corner.
After our bland day at the zoo, we came back to the house to rest and shower before dinner. We wound up eating at The Macaroni Grill, which was yummy but made my fridge smell even worse with the leftovers!

I vote for letting sleeping leopards lie...
A stork...but it didn't bring my baby yet

Toucan bird...very pretty

I could identify with this hippo...fat and hungry all the time!

Okay, if you know my cat, Miss. Kitty, then you know that this monkey has assumed one of her favorite positions: straddling an armrest (or tree!) with all fours hanging down!

A scarlet ibis...there is a short story named after this bird that I taught my 9th graders--read it if you ever have the chance!
