Worst Move Ever

This move from San Antonio to Virginia has been, let's just say, challenging.

And, if I'm being totally honest, it has been terrible. Brutal. A nightmare.

Things started badly when we missed our first flight out of San Antonio to Dallas. They slowly got worse with an hour and a half weather delay, a cancelled flight, a three hour "extended" wait period in the Dallas airport, a switch in arrival locale, lost luggage, lost mommy with two hungry, dirty, crying babies in a random church parking lot, and a hotel that may as well have played a role in the latest horror movie.

After a rather major breakdown, a phone call to my mom to come get my kids and me, and calling Danny Watson as many ugly names as I could think of, he got the message that I was over-tired and A-N-G-R-Y.

Basically, I let him know that this misery was going to cost him. A lot.

And, I think it did.

He wised up pretty quickly and drove his little family of sleep deprived, borderline psychotics straight to the nearest resort where I demanded that he secure TWO rooms because I wasn't interested in being in his vicinity for the next several days (and because my children are close enough in age that one will wake up the other and that is just not okay).

So, we spent the next week at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD, right on the Potomac River. If he'd been an extra-fabulous husband, Danny would have dropped a couple of hundred bucks and sent his stressed-out wife to the resort's spa.

But, oh yeah, we were trying to move in to our new house. No time for a spa day.

And, once I saw the townhome we rented sight unseen, I begged Danny to just let us live at the Gaylord. Even without any spa treatments.

Since then, Danny and I have made up. The terrible move wasn't all his fault, but since it was necessitated by his career, he gets the brunt of the blame.

We are still stepping over a few boxes, and we are desperately trying to get rid of anything excessive so that we can park both vehicles in the garage. You wouldn't believe what a Craigslist diva I have become--made $90 just this afternoon!

Tomorrow, we will begin hanging things on the walls. After that, I will start to feel a little more settled.

Although, it would have been a lot easier to just get settled in at the Gaylord for the next 12 months...

This little bear was fishing in the atrium just outside the seafood restaurant where Danny dropped $120 on dinner one night. I bet he wished that bear was fishing money out of that water...

I think this is actually a Greek Tragedy guy but my memory fails me and I haven't had a chance to look him up. I'm betting Sarah Morris knows...
Anyway, he was displayed on the "beach" of the river. Very cool.

Lydie decided it was too hot to be wearing any clothes. She rocks the diaper look.

Ty was enamored with the fountains at the Gaylord. He must have said "wah-er, wah-er" five thousand times while we were there.

Not sure if it was allowed, but I let him splash his feet in the fountain. We might have looked like the Beverly Hillbillies, but we had a blast.

This scene didn't end well, however, when it was time to leave. Crying ensued for at least 20 minutes. Vowed to avoid the fountains at all costs.

Sibling fun!
Somewhere in all the madness of this move, the pacifier has reappeared from its "nap and bedtime only" location. This is probably due to the fact that Mommy's nerves just can't handle any whining right now. And because Ty can now reach into his bed or Mommy's bag to retrieve said paci before she even knows it's been nabbed.

I'm so sorry it's been a rough ride. We were building our home and finally moved in when Katherine was 6 weeks old so I can somewhat understand the turmoil your life with 2 little ones has been under! Hope you are feeling more settled now. So, y'all are actually in the city? I didn't know if you'd be in VA or not. Yes, post pics when you get a chance. Do what you can and then just rest and enjoy your babies. I promise you "this too shall pass."

I am also glad to have ya'll back on the east coast. These pictures brought back such fun memories, except the bad hair days that I was having on the Potomac! Anyway, it was beautiful. It was also good to see you calm down about the awful moving day and start appreciating the beautiful area. I think you guys are going to love D.C. Also, there is so much to do in VA. It is one of my favorite states!

Love,
Mom
