OB Appointment

Thanks to Joy and Rachel for remembering my appointment today. Your phone calls and messages are greatly appreciated!

Today was my regular, monthly OB appointment, and things are looking good. Since my in-laws are in town, Danny and I took his mother with us to the appoinment, so that was special for her. Before we got to the doctor's office, we had to battle the flooding of Shreveport; it has been raining here non-stop for weeks now. The rain began in the wee hours of the morning today, and by the time we needed to leave for the appointment, Danny was concerned about whether we should even go. We braved the waters and made it to the appointment, but it was a mess getting there!

They checked my weight, and it looks like I've only gained one pound in almost 15 weeks, which I am thrilled with. I already have an extra 20 pounds on me, so I don't want to gain much weight. I'd rather the weight that I have move around to suit my current needs!

They did the quad-screen test today, and that makes me a little nervous. It does have a high false-positive result, but they assured me that if anything was abnormal with the bloodwork, I'd be sent to a specialist for further screenings. I won't be terminating my pregnancy even if there is a problem, but I guess preparing yourself is worth the effort. We'll see.

Dr. Ware is 28 weeks pregnant, so I was excited to confirm that today! Last time I saw her, she looked a little puffy in the front, but I didn't want to ask any questions and be wrong. Today it was evident that there was puffiness, so I asked the question. Yea! She is so cute! This is her 3rd baby. She has a 4 year old girl, a 3 year old girl, and this one is a boy. She doesn't look more than about 24 years old, so I hope she is thankful for the excellent genes she has!

Anyway, she measured my "belly" today, and tried to put my hand where the top of my uterus is. It is just below my belly button, which would explain why I think my belly button is suddenly fat. I still don't see a belly, but whatever. I'm sure something will pop out soon enough.

She was also able to locate the heartbeat on the doppler, and it was beating strongly. She counted that it was about 140 bpm. So, all looks good.

She has scheduled me for an ultrasound on July 18th, and that is when we will determine the gender of the baby. I can hardly contain myself for that one. I have always had my vote in for a boy, and Danny has refused to pick a side until Wednesday morning. He woke up and said he had decided that he thinks it's a girl. That surprised the heck out of me. I guess we will have to see...

I will also go back and see Dr. Ware one last time on July 30th. That is when she will give me all my records and send me on my way to Texas...blah. I will be sad to say goodbye to her and her staff-they've been amazing!

So, no pictures of Baby Watson today, but we'll have another one in about a week and a half!

It won't be long now before you feel the little butterfly flutters right under your belly button. I remember I felt the first ones on Feb. 14, `1982. I was about 14 weeks... Now my little butterfly will be 25 years old tomorrow :-)

Remember when he was The Colonnade mascot?

Glad it all went well. I have missed your updates!

And if that's Betsy Butler whose name I keep seeing, drop me an email! I'd love to hear from you.
