Our Country's Birthday

Tyler must have asked me two dozen times why there were so many flags around our neighborhood the week of the 4th of July. Being that he's a military kid, I felt it was important to render a complete and thorough explanation of the significance of our country's independence. I only reached his level of understanding when I said, "It's like our country is having a big birthday party, and, instead of balloons, we use a whole lot of flags. And fireworks."

I could have just started with that explanation and left it at that...

Miss Heather was kind enough to invite us to celebrate with her family at her aunt's incredibly gorgeous bayside home. In. Cred. Ible.

We played in the pool, ate yummy food, and shot some low-key, safe fireworks. Ty and Lydie even played with poppers for the first time. A good time was had by all.

And, I am so upset that I don't have a picture of Lydie in her CUTE 4th of July dress. She was a doll, but she was being tempermental about the picture-taking.

Hope your celebration was festive! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!
